Conditions to grow, first ramble

To follow up from the post below on fear, I have begun to think about what people need to grow, to thrive, and to be clear for the creative juices to flow.

Well,

First things first: set the mood. Music. Something that inspires. Maybe lemon balm plants by the window. Jasmine. Candles. Change your environment in a tangible way.

In reading Women Who Run With the Wolves today, C.P. Estes was describing an event she participated in at a women's federal prison in California. A violinist was playing in the open air, the wind was howling, and the violin sounded like it was weeping. "A big Lakota woman pounded on my arm and hoarsely whispered, 'This sound...that violin unlocks a place in me. I thought I was locked up good and tight forever.' Her broad face was both puzzled and ethereal."

A sound can crack a person open...Or a beautiful image. And in the opening, we are stunned. The ego can't manage the enormity of what is opening in the spirit. I think I live to find this awe. In finding it, something bigger than whatever fears I may have felt previously suddenly lift.

I just bought 2 tickets to see Gillian Welch on July 7th.
I can't wait to hear her new album. And for now, I am listening to Amiina in my room most of the time.
