Then, through Carson Valley National Forest

And finally, to the Lama Foundation

I stayed as a hermit

My outhouse, with a composting toilet

And, Bear, the hermitage I stayed in. It was built by hand by Women Build Houses.

This is the other side, with a huge window, and the bed is against the window so that I could see the stars all night

And, in the morning, I took this from my window, watching the woodpeckers play and work

This squirrel stayed here, on the tree by my door, all day. He tried to come inside, too.

Since most hermits come and want to be in continuous solitude, there is this trash can, bowl, and rock. Inside the can is a notebook and a pen. That is where you leave a note, letting the hermit guardian know what food you would like and if you need anything else. The rock being inside the bowl lets the guardian know that you (symbolized by the rock) feel safe and held inside the community. If the rock is outside of the bowl, the guardian will come looking for you to speak in person, as you are indicating you have a significant concern.

My note asked for fresh veggies and a unique request, which was for someone from Lama to break into my car, if they knew how, since I locked my keys in my car. No luck on the car, so thankfully, I had AAA, so someone made the haul up the mountain to help me. And Lama gave me fresh food so I could cook
